How it works
To be eligible to receive this tuition discount, students must:
- Apply to BYU-Pathway Worldwide.
- Complete an interactive lesson about principles of self-reliance. This will become available in your
student portal after you enroll in BYU-Pathway.
Students will receive 10, 25, or 50% off their tuition balance. Individual award amounts are determined by need.
Your scholarship amount will be automatically applied to your tuition balance. You will continue to receive this discount every term you are enrolled in BYU-Pathway. (Note: After PathwayConnect, students will need to reapply for the discount every two years.)
About Heber J. Grant
Heber J. Grant served as president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1918–1945, leading the Church through the difficult economic times of the Great Depression and World War II. Heber J. Grant was known for his persistence and determination, his love of learning, and his focus on self-reliance. BYU-Pathway students receiving this discount are encouraged to set goals to share their talents and develop the characteristics needed for continued success.

Students enrolled in an online degree program from BYU-Idaho or Ensign College, supported by BYU-Pathway, are also eligible to receive the Heber J. Grant Tuition Discount during their degree program. These students must reapply every two years.
- Returned Missionary Scholarship: Any student who has returned from a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during the past 60 months is eligible for a
25% tuition discount - Needs-based Scholarship: Once enrolled, students can work with an assigned mentor, who will help determine if the student is eligible for a needs-based scholarship. (This scholarship is limited to one semester during the first year of enrollment.)
- Reduced Tuition: The price of tuition for students who start their degree through BYU-Pathway Worldwide’s PathwayConnect is significantly reduced.
